FAQs: some common questions and answers
Q.
My music is all stored on my computer, but I want a better sound, how can I achieve that?
A.
You can use a media streamer to feed your tv and hi-fi, or you can use one of the latest a/v receivers with network capabilities.A media streamer is often an easy solution; it’s a small device that connects to your t.v.and hi-fi. After a simple set-up, a menu on your t.v. can guide you to the music, movies and photos stored on your computer. There are different models to suit your needs and they have a variety of connection options. The latest network a/v receivers (see our Home Cinema section) have media streaming built-in and allow you to navigate through your media content on your tv screen, with powerful stereo or multi-channel sound. Whether you need a streamer, an a/v receiver or a dac, we can help.

Q.
I have hundreds of photos stored on my computer: can I view them on the t.v.?
A.
Yes, as above, a media streamer will allow you to browse all your photo collections, from the comfort of your armchair in your living room. Many Blu-Ray players, surround receivers and Internet connected televisions now offer you a way to access your photos and music too; we can help you decide which one suits you.

Q.
Which is best wired or wireless networking?
A.
In most cases, a wired connection offers you more performance, more reliably. If it’s easy enough to run a cable, do so. However, with the latest specification of wireless network products, it is worth experimenting first. If wireless works well enough for you, in your home, great. N.B. If you want to regularly stream video content around your house, wireless can often be unreliable, and cat 5e or cat 6 cable is inexpensive.

Q.
I want the best surround sound; do I have to have big speakers?
A.
No you don’t. The great thing about surround systems is they are better with small speakers. All the hard work of producing the deep bass sounds is handled by one or more subwoofers. Once you have put your subwoofer in a discreet location, all your other speakers can be small. They can be in-wall, in-ceiling or even invisible speakers, if you want. We use Definitive Technology, Polk Audio and Triad speakers because they sound great, look great and were designed from the ground up as small speakers that perform.

Q.
You list all these products; do you keep them all in stock?
A.
Due to the constant evolution of technology, we don’t hold products in stock. We use the leading distributor(s) of the brands we represent. As a general rule, we get “live” stock information about computer products, but not about audio / visual products. Therefore, we list only the products that are generally held in the UK as "in stock"; any product with a possible variation is shown as "email/call for lead time". We will advise you about delivery times when you make an order or enquiry. We can advance order items, and advise you when they are back in stock. Any order placed on a weekend can only be advised or confirmed on the next available working day.

Q.
I haven't heard of some these brands, why do you recommend them?
A.
Many of the audio/visual companies we deal with are smaller firms, who only sell through specialist dealers and you may not see them in consumer press or on tv. These small firms though, are the leaders and innovators of the industry and often have started life making products for the professional film and music producers. The products these specialists make are designed specifically with performance in mind. They will comfortably outperform the mainstream brands, because they are not designed for mass market appeal, just those who want the best sound and picture for their budget.

Q.
You list other brands and products, but it says "installation only" on them, why?
A.
These ranges only achieve their best performance after careful setup. We have been trained by these manufacturers to do these setups in your home or office. These manufacturers only supply these products for professional installation, not distance sale or d.i.y. install. Typically, however, once these more specialist products have been properly setup, they outperform their competition by a large margin. We also use an extended range of brands, not listed on this site, for custom installations; as the particular room may demand a specific design.
